The four moving parts
Luau application → SDK → runtime → host
Your Luau module owns state and returns a semantic tree. The SDK validates declarations, the Wasm runtime executes admitted code, and the host reconciles the tree while providing explicit capabilities.
When to use it
Read this before the tutorials when terms such as runtime, host, semantic UI, or capability are unfamiliar.
- Application: your strict Luau modules, tests, assets, and manifest.
- SDK: checked constructors and functions imported through declared dependencies.
- Runtime: executes the admitted module graph and dispatches events.
- Host: renders UI and performs declared storage, history, timer, server, or media work.
