← Recipe: build a small Constellation Orbit

7. Author meaning, not coordinates

luastra/ui · semantic spatial navigation · about 25 minutes
priority + relationships + state → host layout

Orbit placement is derived from bounded semantic hints, so the same model can survive resizing and different targets.

When to use it

Read this when you are tempted to position a node manually or build a separate mobile layout.

  • priority expresses relative importance from 1 to 3; it is not a pixel radius.
  • relatedTo contains IDs from the same constellation and influences stable neighbourhoods without creating navigation by itself.
  • layerState marks one depth active and retained neighbours behind or ahead for bounded transitions.
  • presentation = auto lets the host choose spatial or list mode from width, height, density, and label pressure.
  • Every hidden, disabled, busy, selected, status, and action value still comes from Luau application state.
